About Imperial Palaces
Imperial Palaces was established in 2006 by Brian Hare, an individual who wanted to make free palace hosting available to everyone. He didn't understand why people were charging so much for software that is free to run, use, and host. He began experimenting on Linux with a program called CoLinux for Microsoft Windows. Once he had gotten the hang of it, he started offering free palaces to the public. He used a domain he had from the year earlier, brianhare.com. It was a site for his resume, but he decided to use it instead as a basis to start his palace hosting hobby. He had a minimal control panel, so he would always work on additional options for it, and on improving the installation system for the palaces. After a few months, he had come a long way with his basic control panel. It was now better than most palace control panels, and he was getting more and more people hosted. He decided it was time to upgrade a little more and he needed another domain for his free palaces. He bought freepalaces.com, and got a brand new server that had a full installation of Linux on it rather than a Windows Emulation. With a new server that could run 24/7, he continued to expand more than ever and work on improving the business.
After about 8 months, he was hosting around 300 palaces from 1 server. He forgot to take into account the energy bill for running a computer 24/7 at maximum load. So, it was costing him money to host free palaces. On top of that, he was running out of resources, and it was taking a mighty toll on the computer. Eventually, the server died from overheating, and since he had no cash at hand to buy a new server for hosting, he had to break the news to all his clients that he could no longer host them for free. He gave everyone a chance to get all their backgrounds and data back, and he suggested they find other hosting.
He realized that giving away free palaces, however possible, was not logical. You need money for maintenance, expenses, and support just to keep things running smoothly and everyone happy. Even then, other hosts were still charging way too much. He thought about it for a month, and finally decided to create his own business. A profit company that had all the experience of freepalaces, but with a monetary backbone. With a little bit of money, he could offer bigger, faster servers.
He now relies on computer systems that are housed in huge datacenters to ensure stability and maintenance, and has access to blazing fast internet speeds, and multiple IPs. Even with all this technology, he was still able to have super affordable prices because he analyzed the systems of other hosts and then did a month of research to determine the best way to invest his money. His plan would make just enough profit to cover the expenses, and still be able to offer prices way lower than anyone else. Through determination, research, and planning Brian Hare was able to make Imperial Palaces what it is today.
